Marketing Executive's Day out with TV Technicians

As part of my career development plan, which was established upon my joining the H3 Group in April this year, the company deemed it essential for me to learn and understand all aspects of the business, both administrative and engineering. This career development initiative by the H3 Group has not only empowered me to thrive and excel in my role but also provided me with invaluable opportunities to deepen my knowledge and enhance my skills within our sector.

Recently, I accompanied our television appliance engineers to gain a deeper understanding of how they conduct house visits for pick-up, drop-off, and diagnosis of issues with customers’ televisions. The day was long yet intriguing, taking me across South Wales from our offices in Fforestfach, to Pontadulais, Merthyr Tydfil, Treharris, Caldicot, and finally Cardiff, where we visited customers in Rumney and Pontyclun.

Our first task involved delivering a 65″ Samsung Television that had undergone a screen replacement under Samsung’s warranty. We then traveled to Merthyr Tydfil to inspect a 32″ Samsung with signal issues. Our initial findings suggested that the television aerial was misaligned, and since this was beyond our expertise, we advised the customer to consult aerial specialists. Following this, we went to Treharris to collect a 55″ Samsung for a backlight replacement under warranty from John Lewis. We also returned a 48″ television, which our engineers had found to be faultless as all tests within our workshop indicated it was in full working order. In Cardiff, we inspected a water-damaged Toshiba on behalf of an insurance company. From there, we made several pick-ups and drop-offs in Rumney, including the final pick-up of a 48″ television that the customer had been trying to get collected for repairs by other companies since May, without success.

During this day out with the engineers, I learned how to diagnose common problems with televisions, particularly remote issues (which involves using a camera phone to check the remote signal), backlight issues (there’s a simple video on YouTube for this!), and faulty motherboards. I also learned the step-by-step process of inspecting household appliance repairs for insurance purposes, including filling out the correct forms and using the correct terminology. Additionally, I learned about the various procedures and methodologies utilized by Authorized Samsung Repair Centres when picking up and dropping off televisions to customers.

The day was productive as it allowed me to understand one of the most important aspects of our business in a practical and engaging way. We were in the real world, interacting with real customers, and gaining firsthand experience as our engineers interacted with customers in their homes.
